Principal’s Reflections
May 29, 2011
Note: I have decided to start a column for each Sunday Spiritual Day program we have here at Crestmont. For lack of a better title I am calling them "Principal's Reflections." This one appears this coming Sunday.
A week has past by since the dust storm rolled through on the possible ‘rapture’ of the church that was ‘scheduled’ to happen on May 21, 2011. Of course now are all the explanations as to why it didn’t happen abound. The people proclaiming this campaign go back to the drawing board to begin scheming a new date to usher in judgment day.
It is really beyond me how any one comes up with these dates in the first place. The scriptures clearly remind us that no one knows the day or time but only the Father himself. Yet people over the ages simply ignore the words of Jesus here. Dates are projected. Hopes are raised. Ridicule abounds by the unbelievers. And the cycle is repeated once again.
There is great comfort knowing that my days are truly in His hands. There was chorus I used to love to sing in my “WIWAC” days (when I was a Cadet) : “I’m in His hands, I’m in His hands, whatever the future holds, I’m in His hands. The days I cannot see, have all been planned for me, His way is best you see, I’m in His hands.” Over the years, through many valleys and peaks, the truth of this chorus has kept rolling back to me.
How arrogant of me to think I know better than God. Whether it’s the timing of my departure from planet earth to what appointment I think is ‘best’ for me, I really get ahead of the plans of God here.
The secret is really no secret but it’s rather coming to this place in your life where you can not only say this, but believe this: “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:12-13 NIV
We are surrounding with people who are discontent with their place in life. Looking for escape. Looking for the next great adventure or gadget.
May we break that cycle. May we truly get to the place where we won’t focus on location, status, bank account, or mountain of possessions. May we be content, ready to live and serve for the King of Kings who gave His life for us. May we be agents of change and ambassadors of hope in this world once again.
